Of the 17 reviews and ratings on Amazon, only one is negative.  Almost half of the reviewers give this wood planer a five star rating.  One reviewer says that he “can’t live without this planer” in his shop.  The finite adjustments this tool allows him to make has been a life saver on multiple occasions.  Another individual agrees that this planer is versatile and has plenty of power, but he warns potential buyers to also get the dust bag that is sold separately.

As with every product we review, we also looked at the negative feedback.  There is only one bad review at the time of writing this article.  The user gave this planer a low rating because, according to him, the back shoe is not flat, which leads to unintentionally tapered planing.  However, he also experienced the same thing with another planer from a different manufacturer (Bosch), so this makes us think it may be user error.

At the time of writing this article, 84 people have reviewed this product and left their rating on Amazon.  As you may know, the highest possible rating on Amazon is 5 stars, and 55 people have the Bosch 1594K a perfect 5 star score.  One reviewer called this hand planer “one heckuva tool” and said that is exceeded his expectations.  He loves the fact that you can connect the exhaust system to a shop vac.

Another consumer who bought this planer for his contracting business did EXTENSIVE research before settling on a specific model.  He narrowed it down to Bosch, Makita and Dewalt before deciding to buy the 1594K Planer Kit.  He liked this one because of the “extras” is comes with and on the recommendation of other contractors that he’s worked with.  You can read his review, which is actual quite helpful, right here.

The Makita 2012NB 12-Inch Planer has the best reviews and ratings of any planer on Amazon.  Of the 110 real user reviews, a whopping 81 of them are perfect 5 star scores.  Another 21 are 4 star reviews.  One customer is amazed that he’s been using this planer for seven years without any problems.  He even comes back to Amazon to update his review every couple of years, which shows great loyalty to this product.

Other customers have called this wood planer an “excellent choice” and “plain heaven”.  Of course, we always like to check out the negative reviews to get a balanced opinion.  There weren’t very many bad reviews to choose from, but we did see two 1 star reviews that mentioned “out of the box” defects.  These were most likely due to shipping errors that caused damage to the product before is was even used for the first time.  We don’t think these reviews should influence your decision to purchase this planer.

At the time of writing this article, 64 people have reviewed and rated the DeWALT DW734 wood planer on Amazon.com.  Of these 64 reviews, 50 people gave this planer 4 or 5 stars.  Given that 5/5 is a perfect score, that’s a pretty good sign.  There were a few negative reviews, however.  One reviewer warned that this wood planer broke down on him multiple after extensive use (i.e., over 1000 lineal feet of wood).  He says that he’s had to repair it multiple times and order replacement parts from DeWALT’s web store.
